Do you ever see the screen “URL not in property”, when working in Google Search Console?
This issue is so obvious and simple but sometimes it happens even with experienced webmasters.
You see this issue when try to inspect the URL address that does not belong to this property.
For example, in the https://ivanhoe.pro/ property, that created as a URL prefix property, you can’t inspect such URLs as:
- https://skillgaps.co/about/ (URL from another domain name);
- https://ivanhoe.pro/google-data-studio-training/ (URL on http:// when the property has https://, or vice versa);
- https://www.ivanhoe.pro/ (URL with www, when the property has no www, or vice versa );
- https://customers.ivanhoe.pro/ (any subdomain, when the property is about the main domain name and vice versa).
You always will see the issue “URL not in property” in all 4 cases.
But if the property was set up as a domain property, not a URL prefix property you will see the issue only in the 1st case, when entering URL from another domain name. In the other 3 cases, everything will work fine.
Check the guide on how to install Google Search Console on your website, to understand the difference between URL prefix property and Domain property.
